Anson Park PS Students learn about the TTC's electric buses.Anson Park Public School marked Earth Day with a vibrant and educational day of events designed to highlight environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. The celebration brought students, staff and community partners together in a shared commitment to protecting the planet.

A highlight of the day was a visit from the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), which showcased one of its fully electric buses. Students had the opportunity to board the bus and learn from TTC staff about how electric vehicles and public transit play a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting cleaner air in our city.

Students also took the lead in organizing and running a series of Eco Games, encouraging their peers to think critically about sustainability while having fun. These engaging activities emphasized teamwork, problem-solving and environmental awareness.

Hands-on learning continued as students planted pollinator seeds in small groups. The seeds, all native species, will be nurtured in classrooms until they’re ready to be transplanted into the school’s pollinator gardens. This initiative supports local biodiversity and helps create essential habitats for bees, butterflies and other pollinators.

The day also featured guided garden tours, where students explored the existing garden spaces at the front of the school. They learned about the importance of native plants and pollinators, and heard about exciting plans for expanding the garden in the months to come.

Anson Park’s Earth Day celebration served as an inspiring reminder of the power of community and education in building a greener future.
