Bloor CI’s Museo Club Launches Exhibition at Queen’s Park

Categories: News

Bloor Collegiate Institute’s Museo Club has proudly unveiled their latest Community Exhibition Project, on display in the Provincial Legislature's West Wing from now until December 2025.

The exhibit, titled "They Walked These Halls and Did Their Part," highlights the incredible legacy of Bloor C.I.’s alumni who served in World War II and honours the school’s approaching centennial in 2025.

The Museo Club — a team of 12 students from Grades 9 through 11 — spent months researching and curating the exhibit, weaving together personal artifacts, archival images, wartime memorabilia, and newspaper clippings to tell the story of a community that answered the call to service. Their work, supported by staff advisor Ms. Katy Whitfield and community partners, brings to life the history of Bloor Collegiate’s remarkable contributions during the Second World War.

Among the treasures on display:

  • A Canadian Army battle dress from the 1940s
  • The personal duffle bag of a Bloor C.I. alumnus
  • A Roll of Honour listing the names of 670 alumni who served — 66 of whom made the ultimate sacrifice

Museo’s exhibit holds a particularly special distinction: Bloor C.I. is the only student group selected to participate in this year’s Community Exhibits Program at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, a space typically reserved for museums and galleries from across the province.

Students were deeply involved at every step — from research to installation, “It was a really great experience... I’m glad we were able to include more personal connections,” one student shared. Ms. Whitfield reflected on the dedication of all students, “I am so pleased at the commitment of our students to join in doing this important storytelling work about our school's history and its historical connections and legacy in our community. It truly is an honour to have this work displayed in the Legislature and to be able to recognize the school's contribution to the war effort on the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and also to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Bloor C.I.”

Congratulations to the Bloor CI Museo Club!

A museum-style display case featuring artifacts from Bloor Collegiate Institute's commemoration of military service. The centerpiece is a vintage World War II poster showing a smiling soldier in front of a waving Union Jack with the slogan "Let's Go... Canada!" On the left, a red Canadian Red Ensign flag is hung vertically. Below the poster are black-and-white historical photos, documents, and informational panels. Centered in the case is a World War II-era soldier’s uniform with a jacket, belt, and canvas bags. The bottom of the display is decorated with crafted red paper tulips. The case stands in an ornate hallway with marble floors and walls.
