Program Area Review
The TDSB is currently conducting a Program Area Review involving Etobicoke Secondary Alternative School (ESAS) and Rexdale Learning Centre.
In 2024, the Ministry of Education approved funding for a brand new JK to Grade 8 elementary school of 823 pupil places to be built on the current Etobicoke Secondary Alternative School (ESAS) site (160 Silverhill Drive). This is to accommodate current and future students residing within the Etobicoke City Centre area. To make way for the new elementary school, the existing building needs to be demolished by 2026.
The reason for this review is explore the relocation of ESAS. The relocation must occur before demolition can be completed.
A Program Area Review Team (PART) has been formed and will be reviewing data, discussing impacts, and making recommendations for this group of schools. The membership of the PART includes the Trustees, Superintendent, Planning Staff, School Principals, and a School Council Chair/designate from ESAS.
Proposed Changes through this Review:
The PART is proposing the following changes (Please note that no decisions have been made for this review):
- ESAS be relocated to Rexdale Leaning Centre by September 2026 at the very latest.
